About Lynn Baldwin-Rhoades

Lynn Baldwin-RhoadesI'm Lynn, the passion behind Power Chicks.

Community builder, champion of women and lover of dreaming – and achieving – crazy-big stuff.

A couple years ago, I wouldn’t have described myself in those words. At the time, I worked for a great company, but I was bored. Restless. Cooped up. So, I did what made sense in a crazy sort of way: In a crappy economy with zero backup plan, I gave my notice to leave.

I decided to create my own company. I’d been in marketing for more than 20 years and figured I could build a business based on my well-honed skills. So, on a shoestring, I launched my biz. I worked insanely hard. Got insanely burned out. That first year? I earned 10% of my previous job’s income.

I was floundering. Failing! What could I do?

I’d been networking online and one website offered the ability to create groups. Aha! I thought. I’ll start a group, call it Power Chicks and invite folks to come together. My big vision:

A few women would gather so we could lend each other support, pool our smarts, and rock our professional lives. Sweet, right?

When 10 women joined the online group, I was thrilled. When 50 joined, I was nervous. When 200 joined, I knew I was in over my head. And when 500 women resonated with my wee-small idea for a group called Power Chicks, I had a fit on the phone with my friend.

Why the overwhelm? I hadn’t yet met my own Power Chick self.

Although the online group drew people from across North America, many lived in Seattle, my beloved city. Gathering my guts, I began holding networking meetings. I centered them around the idea of smart, spirited women building authentic relationships, collaborating and inspiring one another to reach our big, bold goals.

Feedback from the gatherings blew me away. Women loved Power Chicks! Words like "genuine," "connecting," "positive," and "motivating" poured into my email box. As the group grew more popular, it spread an inspiring vibe, commitment to authentic connections and dedication to mutual success everywhere.

Power Chick mojo hit me up, too.

No longer intimidated, I accepted the fact: My desire for connection had resonated rapid-fire around the globe because it wasn’t my desire alone. I’d tapped into a wellspring of what other women wanted, too.

Welcome to Power Chicks.

Today, with thousands of women in over ten countries identifying with Power Chicks on two social networking sites, this grassroots group now has its own home in Power Chicks International. And home describes exactly how I feel as you read these words! Consider this your personal invite to join a community dedicated to supporting one another's big, bold goals.
